2. PAPERS AND PROGRAMME
About 23 Papers will be presented in the following categories:
●        Collection development and acquisition policies
●        Cataloging policies and practices
●        Electronic resources and digitization projects
●        History of libraries & collections, ownership and readership
●        Manuscripts, rare books and documents
The preliminary programme will be circulated soon.
Note to the prospective speakers: Please specify the technical equipment needed. Internet access is available. It would be helpful if we knew in advance if you intend to make use of it and which internet browser you would like to use.
Please remember papers should not exceed 20 minutes. The organizers reserve the right to select among papers.

3. CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE FEES
35 Euro for regular participants / 80 Euro for commercial participants (please contact the treasurer, Farzaneh Zareie for further details about tables hire and distribution of commercial material)
20 Euro for the Conference Dinner
40 Euro for the optional excursion on Thursday
Apart from the conference fees all other expenditures are optional. Please indicate on the registration form which activities you wish to participate in.

4. VISA REGULATIONS:
Citizens of some countries (Turkey, Israel and CIS counties ) can make their way into Russia without any visa at all.
The best/easiest way for others is to apply for a tourist visa.
Citizens living within the Schengen Space benefit from a simplified procedure for attending cultural events in Russia. They need to forward their post address and a scanned copy of their passport to the host (IlyaZaytsev) and the Library will deliver them a free letter of invitation.
Please check with your nearest Russian Consular mission or embassy for more details concerning visa regulations applying to your citizenship.
For those who request special invitation letters, the International Office in the Library will provide them.

5. ACCOMMODATION
The following map shows you the hotels in the vicinity of the VGBIL: map of hotels around the VGBIL. All of them are within 5-10 minutes walking distance of the Library.

Very close to the Library (3 minutes walk).
They have 20 single rooms (fitted with en-suite bathroom, tv, wi-fi etc.) in the hotel [the 6 other rooms in the hostel located in the same building are being currently refurbished to become part of the hotel, possibly by late May]. The regular price for a single room in the hotel is 3500 roubles (approximately 90 euros) (breakfast is not included). If the MELCom participants book the whole hotel, the price per room/night would be discounted to 3000 to 3200 roubles (80 euros).

The quality/price ratio makes this hotel a recommended alternative to the Basilica Hotel.

7. MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
Normally no immunizations are required or needed.
You are required to have medical insurance cover when travelling in Russia. Here is more information  on medical assistance in Moscow
Pharmacies or “aptekas” are quite widely available (the largest branch is called 36.6).

8. CURRENCY
The local currency is the Rouble (RUB). The change rate at 25/02/2013 is  1 Euro =  40,11 Roubles; 1 USD =  30,36 Roubles.
Credit cards (with chips and pin code) are accepted and widely used.  You do not need to change money prior to arrival as currency exchange offices and ATM machines are all over the city and at the airport, though it may be handy to have some Russian change at your arrival just in case.
Currency exchange is only available at the banks’ offices. Most banks are closed on Saturday and Sunday.  See more information here or here.

Optional excursion to the Holy Trinity Church – St. SergiusLavra at SergievPosad
